How hard can it be to clean your home? People have been doing it for ages!
While this is true, as with every other job, cleaning requires a certain level of knowledge and appropriate skills to avoid accidents and damage. Over the years in our professional cleaning career, we have seen numerous faults and terrible outcomes when people decided to try out improper cleaning methods or products. Here is a compilation of cleaning mistakes that make every situation worse.
Stain Removal Products from the Store
No matter how great the adverts about these ‘miraculous’ carpet stain removers are, don’t buy them. Just don’t. Spot treatment usually leaves visible patches on your carpet. These are very hard to eliminate afterwards, even if you book a professional carpet cleaning service.
What is more, stain removers found on the shelf in big stores contain a cocktail of chemicals that can be quite harmful to your health and the rest of your family.
Spraying Furniture with Polish
You are not supposed to use polish spray on furniture? But that’s what the spray is for!
Actually, no. The wrongdoing here is the method. If you apply the spray directly on the surface all you’ll do is seal the dust and dirt on it. Instead, spray the product on a clean cotton or microfibre cloth. Then rub the cloth gently on the furniture.
Too Much Fabric Softener
Less is more, you’ve surely heard that. And it proves to be true when it comes to washing and fabric softeners. Using too much of the product will NOT make your clothes softer. In fact, it will have the opposite effect. They will become stiff and uncomfortable to wear or sleep on.
Furthermore, the majority of fabric softeners sold widely in shops have proven to contain cancerogenous chemicals. So, if you can’t stay completely clear of these products, at least don’t use too much of them.
Not Cleaning Your Vacuum Cleaner and other Appliances
People often forget to clean the cleaning equipment. And that’s a big mistake. The vacuum cleaner collects all the dust and dirt from your floors and carpets. Not replacing the bag in time or forgetting to clean the canister after every use will only lead to more dirt spread all around the house. It’s gross and very unhealthy.
Same applies to the washing machine, tumble dryer and the dishwasher. Although they do a big chunk of the cleaning for you, they need to be cleaned too. Improper maintenance of these appliances will not only shorten their life, but also become a premise for the development of mould, bad smells and multiplication of bacteria.
Ignoring the Technology
Your TV, remote control, computer keyboard and smartphone accumulate more dust and germs than you can imagine. A lot of people ignore these tech items because they are unsure how to clean and disinfect them appropriately. Well, it’s true technology requires extra care, specific methods and cleaning products, but instead of ignoring these items, hoping they will clean themselves, just call the professionals. Domestic and commercial cleaners have undergone specialist training and know exactly how to handle technology.
Now be honest – which of these mistakes did you catch yourself making?
