Did you know that in the USA they have a whole week dedicated to cleaning? Yes, it is usually at the end of March and this year the official dates are from 27th March to 2nd April. But what is all that about? Are all Americans rolling up their sleeves and performing the mother of all cleans during that particular week? What actually happens in that period?
What is the Cleaning Week about
The Cleaning Week in the USA focuses on the importance of cleaning for public health, the environment and the economy. So, through its duration, there are different campaigns and events that raise awareness and promote new cleaning solutions, connections between clean living and working spaces and mental health, as well as sharing insights of the industry. During the Cleaning Week various organisations try their best to raise the profile of cleaning businesses and show support and appreciation for employees in the industry, so that more people consider a career in cleaning. Finding motivated and reliable personnel is a global challenge for both domestic and commercial cleaning companies.
Is there any actual cleaning happening
Absolutely! The National Cleaning Week (as it is labelled in the USA) is a great opportunity for people to declutter their space, find new essentials, try new methods and new products. There are many trade shows and pop-up events in big stores that provide encouragement, information and actual materials to get people cleaning their homes. Holding it at the end of March, just after the astronomical beginning of spring, is a great push to inspire citizens to embark on a big spring cleaning adventure.
What are the main activities during the Cleaning Week
There are three main activities that are happening that week. The first, as you can imagine, is cleaning up your living space. The professionals advise to start from the top, work your way down and do it room by room. Anything that seems too old, not used for a long time or unlikely to be used again should go out of your house and never return.
The second activity is getting others involved. Cleaning on your own could be very lonely and boring. Get your friends, family, colleagues into the mood of decluttering, dusting, wiping and creating a new, healthy and fresh atmosphere.
The third activity is focused on showing appreciation to professional cleaners. Whether you hire a cleaner to tidy up your home regularly or you are the founder of a cleaning company, it is a good time to pay your cleaners special attention and perhaps thank them for their hard work with some incentives.
Is there a Cleaning Week in the UK
Unfortunately, there isn’t an official Cleaning Week or Day in the UK, however, there are several cleaning trade shows happening in various British cities in Autumn from September to November. They are more focused on connecting the people within the industry rather than raising wider awareness and elevating the profile of cleaning as an industry.
Maybe that’s something British cleaner organisations need to be working on. What do you think?
