5 Cleaning Problems You Have and How to Solve Them
People often complain about common cleaning problems that happen in almost all households. They are easily fixed by professionals, but with the right knowledge, we are pretty sure you can deal with them on your own too! Or if not, make the relevant bookings!
Hard Water Stains
Hard water stains form on your bathroom tiles, the bath and the shower cabin door, as well as on the taps and shower head. To avoid them you can use a solvent that’s sold in most supermarkets. All you have to do is spray the area that was touched by water after you shower. It takes less than a minute, but will save you a lot of effort when it’s time to clean the bathroom thoroughly. For the shower head you may need to use a limescale remover or soak in vinegar for half an hour to remove any buildup blocking the holes.
Mould
Mould in different places of your home is perhaps the most common cleaning problem in Britain. Some people use bleach to remove it from walls, but this could be very dangerous, because bleach is a toxic and very heavy chemical. Furthermore, mould formation can be prevented in most instances by proper ventilation. Always keep the bathroom door open for some time after showering, don’t dry clothes indoors if possible and allow fresh air to circulate freely in the property every day. To clean mould you can use various mould removers sold in shops. There are some eco solutions too, but they may not be as effective.
Spider Webs
Spider webs in the corners of your rooms may be a frequent occurrence. They are quite normal in early autumn as that’s spider mating season and the creepy crawlies rapidly increase their count. If you notice that this happens too often in your home, though, it may also be a sign of other pest infestation. It is worth checking for cracks on the walls or other possible entrances for the uninvited guests. Vacuuming often should help with removing the webs easily, along with any spider eggs. Adult spiders can crawl out of the vacuum bag, so make sure you empty it if you think you may have sucked one in.
Smelly Carpets
When carpets accumulate too much dust and mould they begin releasing an unpleasant smell. Same happens when you have pets at home and you don’t professionally clean the carpets often enough. The solution here is appropriate carpet treatment at least twice a year.
Blocked Drains
Drains can get blocked for a lot of reasons – food chunks, small plastic pieces, hair and more. To avoid such a problem, empty your plates well before putting them in the sink to be washed and use a protective ceive to filter any big debris, which may cause blockage. When you clean the bathroom, don’t forget to remove the drain cover in the shower cabin or the bathtub and clean it well. It’s nasty, no lie, but having an overflowing dirty water while you shower is worse and could lead to much more serious damage to the property.
If you already have a blocked drain don’t try to unblock it with vinegar and baking soda as often suggested by “cleaning gurus” on the Internet. It’s just not going to work. These two will neutralise each other and give you a foam/fizz show but will do absolutely nothing to unblock the drain. Use a proper drain cleaner (with a lot of caution!), a manual unblocker or book a professional cleaning service.
