It’s BBQ season, everyone! Chances are you have hosted one or two parties in your garden already, but it’s never too late to learn how to clean your outdoors grill quickly, safely and effectively. Here are our best BBQ cleaning tips.
Steam Does Wonders
Steam cleaning is one of the best methods for cleaning anything at all, but when it comes to your BBQ, you don’t even need a steam cleaner. Once it has started to cool down, you can simply cover the racks with water soaked newspaper and close the lid. Let the BBQ steam itself. Bet you didn’t know that a grill can self clean!
Important notice: Never place dry paper on a hot BBQ and leave unattended. This can cause fire.
Use Onions
Onion juice has the power to not only bring tears to your eyes, but also to remove burnt-ons from your BBQ racks. Cut an onion in half and stick it on a fork. Then, run it through the grill while it is still warm. Most of the grease and stuck food should dissolve and go away. If you, however, missed a couple of cleans between grilling sessions, you may need to use something stronger than a natural cleaner.
Give the Dishwasher a Go
This tip works for smaller BBQs and grills. The racks should be able to comfortably fit in your dishwasher. And from there, there’s not much you have to do. If your grill is bigger, though, another option would be to soak the racks in warm soapy water and then use a wired brush or a scrunched tin foil to remove any food residue and stuck pieces.
Don’t Forget to Clean the Base
It is a common mistake when people clean their BBQ to pay attention only to the parts they see. In reality, there are a lot of ashes and bits that remain at the base and need to be cleared before the next use of the grill. Once you have disposed of that, give the base a nice wash with soapy water and then wipe with a clean towel.
Final Touches
Now that you have your BBQ all clean from the inside, give the outside a nice wash or wipe (depending on the level of dirtiness). It is very important to remember to heat up the grill for at least 15 minutes before you place food on the racks. This is to destroy any chemical residue that may have remained on the surface after using strong cleaning products.
Of course, in our humble opinion, it’s always best to rely on professional cleaners for jobs like this one. It saves you time, effort, worries and potential damage.
