Displaying acts of service is one of the five universal love languages. It means doing something for someone to make them feel better or to give them the opportunity to relax and rest. These kinds of acts show how important that person is to you. It could be a lovely gesture from one spouse to another or from a child to a parent, or even between siblings and close friends. Thoughtful acts of service could be a fantastic gift for special occasions or just a random token of appreciation.
A Cup of Coffee
One of the simplest, yet very powerful gestures for people whose love language is acts of service, could be making them a cup of coffee in the morning. Or tea. Or hot chocolate. It could even be a glass of water placed on the night stand if they often wake up thirsty.
Run Some Errands
The whole point of acts of service is to display your appreciation and desire to help a loved one. So, sometimes this could mean running some errands outside of the house like shopping, taking the children to extracurricular activities, picking up a relative from the airport and so on. This could save time and energy for the person who normally takes care of these and give them the opportunity to do something nice for themselves.
Clean the House
Taking over house chores is a big thing for someone whose love language is acts of service. Cleaning, in particular, is at the top of the list. Unless your favourite person is a clean freak and scrubbing the place gives them genuine pleasure and satisfaction, then we are absolutely sure they will value your attempt to take this chore off their plate.
You don’t actually have to do the cleaning yourself. Booking professional cleaners to complete the job is still an amazing act of service. It could also tick the “gift” box.
Some Tech Support
It’s true we live in a digital era, but not everyone is great with technology. It can be really frustrating when you are trying to get something done on a particular device and you just can’t figure out why it is not working. If that happens for a person you love, offer some tech support. We can bet they will be relieved and very grateful to you for helping them out.
A Lovely Home Cooked Meal
Some people say food is the sixth universal love language, but we believe it still falls under acts of service. If you know what your loved one’s favourite meal is, put an effort and prepare it for them. A nice home cooked soup can also go a long way if your person is sick and you are trying to make them feel better. After the lunch/dinner in bed, serve them some herbal tea, tuck them in gently and play relaxing music or stay to have a little chat – whatever they feel like doing at that moment.
